{"id":5011,"date":"2021-02-26T15:36:02","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T01:36:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/hiema\/?p=5011"},"modified":"2026-05-01T12:24:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T22:24:31","slug":"news-release-hawaii-receives-87m-to-provide-covid-19-vaccines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/hiema\/news-release-hawaii-receives-87m-to-provide-covid-19-vaccines\/","title":{"rendered":"NEWS RELEASE: Hawaii Receives $87M to Provide COVID-19 Vaccines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">February 26, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Honolulu<\/strong> \u2013 The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) granted the state of Hawai\u02bbi $87.4 million to open multiple, state-led community vaccination sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reimbursement grant will be managed by Hawai\u02bbi Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), the Department of Health, and the Department of Budget &amp; Finance. &nbsp;These funds will cover expenses for medical and support staff, personal protective equipment, facility costs and supplies required to store, handle, transport and administer vaccines, and efforts to share public information regarding vaccinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The $87.4 million in approved funding represents 50% of Hawaii\u2019s estimate of the cost of to administer the statewide vaccination program for the first 90 days. With proper documentation, the grant will reimburse the state for eligible expenses to distribute and administer the COVID-19 vaccines to its population. The State is coordinating with the Counties and various healthcare organizations to gather eligible vaccine expenditures to file for monthly reimbursements. Qualified healthcare organizations also have the option to apply for reimbursements directly with FEMA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Stafford Act Public Assistance program provides disaster assistance to states, tribes, local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations following a presidential disaster declaration to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of HI-EMA\u2019s core values is <em>m\u0101lama<\/em> \u2013 to care for or protect.
