{"id":4188,"date":"2019-08-20T10:25:17","date_gmt":"2019-08-20T20:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/hiema\/?p=4188"},"modified":"2026-05-01T11:56:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T21:56:13","slug":"4188-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/hiema\/4188-2\/","title":{"rendered":"NEWS RELEASE: Siren testing on Hawaii Island &#8211; AUGUST 22 and 23, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">August 20, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HAWAI&#8217;I COUNTY \u2014 The Hawai&#8217;i Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), together with the Hawai&#8217;i County Civil Defense Agency, will conduct siren testing at the following locations and times on Thursday and Friday, August 22 and 23, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Ainako Park, Hilo<br>\u2022 Malama Park, Hilo<br>\u2022 Mohouli Park, Hilo<br>\u2022 Waiakea Uka Gym, Hilo<br>\u2022 Pahoa Agricultural Park, Pahoa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents nearby may hear the siren sound for 30-seconds to 3-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as \u201cburps.\u201d During the tests, Emergency Management Officials and Technicians will be checking the functionality of the sirens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These sirens were installed as part of HI-EMA\u2019s ongoing All-Hazard Outdoor Warning Siren Program.
