Job Description and Qualifications

The primary purpose of an Emergency Management Specialist is to develop, facilitate, maintain, and evaluate various components of state documentation for preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery, as well as the Agency’s strategic plan. Coordinates joint efforts and review among county, state, and federal agencies, as well as non-governmental organizations and private sector partners.

These positions will serve as a State Emergency Response Team (SERT) member during emergencies. We are seeking to fill positions within Planning, Logistics, and Hazard Mitigation.

Applicants must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii. This requirement is due to the potential for independent travel at all times of the day or night during activation, deployment, and other transportation requirements during emergencies.

This position is exempt from civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered “at-will”, which means you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of your department head or designee at any time.
