HAWAII ARMY NATIONAL GUARD FROM HILO DEPLOYING TO EGYPT

HILO, HI- About 90 Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st
Squadron, 299th Cavalry Regiment, Hawaii Army National Guard, will be
participating in a deployment ceremony at the LTC Henry S.Hara Armed Forces
Reserve Center tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. for an upcoming deployment to Sinai,
Egypt. It will be a year-long deployment for the 1-299th and they will be
supporting the Multinational Forces Observers Group in Egypt.

This is the fourth time that the unit will be deployed: Vietnam in 1968,
Iraq in 2004, Kuwait in 2008, and now Egypt in 2018. There are some first
time deployers and multi-deployers in the Hilo unit. The 1-299th Soldiers
will be training in Fort Bliss, Texas for about a month before heading to
Egypt.
