Sgt. 1st Class George “Keoki” Kaapana (pictured with Maj. Jeffrey Kawakami, recruitng
and retention operation and training officer) has been selected to represent the Hawaii Army National Guard as the top recruiter for Hawaii. This is the second year in a row that he will be representing Hawaii at the annual conference in Washington D.C. This year the awards ceremony will be held at the OMNI Shoreham Hotel, Dec. 5-10.
Sgt. 1st Class Kaapana has been in the Army Guard for more than 19 years and has been a recruiter for move than six. He is assigned as the retention NCO for HHSB, 1st Battalion, 487th “HIKI NO” Field Artillery. Besides the National Guard, Sgt. 1st Class Kaapana supports the Hawaii State High School Rodeo Association, participates on his neighborhood board and volunteers as a basketball referee for Police Activity League (PAL).
